Rafiki Parties

“Tumaini,” means hope. With hope comes a desire to spread the word about TAPP, something we can’t do on our own. Rafiki parties are an opportunity for volunteers to bring hope from the women of Uganda directly into our community.

Stemming from the idea of in-home parties that feature cosmetics, housewares or food, Rafiki parties give both hosts and attendees the chance to learn more about TAPP and HIV/AIDS and to purchase necklaces.

Led by a TAPP representative, Rafiki parties begin with a short DVD to acquaint participants with TAPP and invite them to share in our mission. The representative also provide pamphlets, brochures and other materials about TAPP and the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Party guests can competing for a free necklace in a trivia session over the information presented.

Rafiki parties give guests a chance to learn about the women of TAPP—who create the necklaces—by reading their first-hand stories and the stories of volunteers who have made TAPP a part of their lives.

In addition to education, Rafiki parties allow participant to purchase from a wide selection of TAPP necklaces. Each handmade necklace represents the woman who made it and the hope that TAPP is bringing to their community. 85% of each purchase directly benefits the women in the program.

If the facilitator wishes, Rafiki parties can also feature an authentic African meal as a way to help guests further connect deeply with Ugandan culture.

Learn more about TAPP, spread the word and unite with the women of TAPP by hosting a Rafiki party and purchasing necklaces. Each host also receives a free TAPP necklace.
