About TAPP Uganda
In the Republic of Uganda, where TAPP beads are made and hope for the future is growing, a staggeringly young population struggles to find ways to make a better life for those who will come after. Landlocked by Kenya, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania and Rwanda, this East African nation is home to over 24 million people, according to a 2002 census. With 60 percent of the population under the age of 15 and 80 percent under the age of 30, children are raising children and mothers are raising children that aren’t their own.
Through TAPP, we are hoping to be a part of raising a more educated population in Uganda. Since a large majority of the money TAPP brings in through bead sales goes straight to support Ugandan children, we’re helping this population find safe ways to make an income that will keep them away from dangerous situations like human trafficking—sex slavery—and children forced into being soldiers.
